If you use the Online Bible on a Windows desktop computer or laptop, there are options to copy some titles from the desktop to the Mac or Android device. However, there are some conditions for this:
- This solution only works for Android and Mac devices but not for iPhone/iPad because Apple does not allow importing content outside the store.
- To export titles from the computer, the Online Bible on the PC must be at least version 4.34. You can see the version number by starting the Online Bible and looking at the description at the very top left (or in the menu: Help → About).
- You must have the ‘Load module from PC version’ option in the app. If you are Standard or Professional Premium user you can have this for free (does not apply to Basic Premium), otherwise you will have to buy it in the app.
- Open the app, go to the shop and choose the menu there (the three dots). There, click on the ‘Load module from PC version’ option. At that point, the app will be made compatible, and it will indicate if you still need to buy the import module. You will then also see where the import files should end up.
- This solution does not work for all titles. In particular, it works for compiled titles (i.e. not your own notes), specifically Bibles, Lexicons, Dictionaries. It also works for some books but not for atlas, for example.
To import, follow three steps:
- Preparing the modules for export on the PC
- Importing the files into the app on your tablet or smartphone
- Checking in the app whether everything has gone correctly
1. Preparing and exporting:
The following description assumes that you have at least version 4.45 or higher of the Online Bible on your computer. If you have an older version we strongly recommend installing a more recent version. The programme is free of charge.
- Connect an USB stick or external hard drive to the PC/laptop
- Start the Online Bible on the computer and in the menu go to Additional modules for Mobile and Tablet. This option is not available if your version is too old (versions earlier than 4.34).
- A new screen will appear, and you will see tab Configuration.
- Next, you need to determine which titles you want to copy.
- Choose the ‘Bibles’ tab
- Select which translations you want to export (or uncheck any Bibles you don't need but are already checked)
- Do the same in the following tabs (Commentaries, Books, etc.)
- Note where the files will end up (it may be different in your case than what the image shows
- And when you are ready, click Prepare. Now the files are ready in the specified location
- Copy the OnlineBible folder to a memory stick
You can repeat this process several times, so you don't have to import everything at once. In fact, it is wiser to choose just a few titles first to check that everything works properly before ticking too many. However, you should repeat the four steps in full if you go through the process several times.
By the way: you can copy all installed titles at once and load them into the app on the Mac. If you know where the installed files are on your PC, copy the Online Bible folder (without the OnlineBible folder!) in its entirety to the Usb stick.
Where the folder is located varies by user and what choices you made during installation.
In the image above, the folder is on the C drive: C:\Users\Public\Documents.
The OnlineBible folder contains the titles you chose under 1 - 3 above.
2. Import the titles into the app
Create a folder on the Mac's hard drive.
Copy the folder containing files from the USB flash drive to the folder you just created.
Open the Online Bible App on the Mac.
Click on the shopping cart at the bottom left of the screen.
If you are not already logged in, log in with your account.
If you are logged in, instead of ‘Anonymous’ your name will be displayed.
You will see a circle with three dots and a ∨ at the top right of the screen.
If you click on it, you can choose ‘Load’ in the next screen.
Then choose ‘Select’.
Choose the folder you created on the Mac where you copied the modules and choose Open.
3. Checking in the app whether everything went correctly
If all is well, you will see in the Store and the left screen the titles you have imported (including any titles you previously imported). There might also be error messages. Should you encounter these, check carefully that you have gone through the steps as described above. If necessary, try importing the same titles again. If only one title shows an error message while other titles succeeded, it could be that this title is not suitable for importing. Please let us know so we can check. If you can't figure it out, let us know (‘New support ticket’ at the top right of this screen) and we'll try to help.
Finally; If the Online Bible is not installed on your own PC in order to import the titles into your Mac Online Bible, it goes without saying that it should be uninstalled again.
And if you get stuck somewhere, at the top right of the screen you can create a ticket. Clearly state the situation and problem, and we'll try to help you further.
