Introduction

In most cases, the Online Bible is installed without changing the locations of the files, but sometimes this is desired.

This article discusses a number of options for this.

For a standard installation, please refer to the knowledge base article.

Installation or Update Online Bible Windows UK

The Online Bible puts files into 3 locations during installation: program files, user files, and shared files.

These locations can be changed during the installation of the Online Bible program.

The program files are normally in c:\Program Files (x86)\Bible.

In older Windows 32 bit versions, this is c:\Program Files\Bible.

It is recommended that you do not change this location.

User files are files that belong to a user, such as desktops, which contain personal settings, and self-made notes on books.

The default location is the Bible folder in the user's documents folder.

If multiple users can log in on the computer, each user of the Online Bible has its own user folder.

It is therefore recommended to use this default location.

The shared folder contains all Bibles, commentaries, and other books.

By default, this location uses an Online Bible folder in the user's Public Documents folder.

The contents of this folder can take up to several GB of space.

Therefore, it may make sense to change the default location.

Installing a shared folder on another disk

Installing the shared folder on another disk is covered here.

You must first create the folder on that disk, because the Online Bible cannot do that itself.

During the installation of the Online Bible, the following screen appears, in which the 3 locations can be seen and can be adjusted.

We assume that you only want to change the location of the shared files.

We leave the other 2 locations at the default value.

Click Browse.

In the Drives box, choose the drive letter of the disk you want.

In the screen that appears, choose the folder you have created.

In this example, it's the Online Bible folder on drive D. Select that folder, and then click OK.

You can now click on Continue, and finish the installation.

If the installation went well, you can start the Online Bible Windows Content Installer.

Check that the locations match those in the screen above.

If the correct locations are not listed here, click on the folder icon in the top right corner of the blue bar with Online Bible Windows, after which the explorer opens.

Then look for the program olb.exe, which is normally in the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bible".

Select the olb.exe file and then click Open, and the correct locations will now be filled in.

Future installations

When updating the Online Bible, the program is unable to find the user and shared folders that are not in the default locations. In this case, you will need to adjust the locations during installation

The Content Installer is able to find the right locations.

Installation on a USB stick

When installing the Online Bible, there are a few points to consider.

  • The installer should always be started as an administrator.
  • Never create a folder for the user data and the shared files yourself. If you do, you will have problems if the USB stick is used in another computer, and gets a different drive letter there.

During the installation, there are 2 options for the location of the Online Bible.

If you do not specify a folder, a folder Bible will be created on the USB stick.

The program files will be stored there.

In this folder, the folders MemoryStickData and SharedMemoryStickData are created during installation. The program does that itself.

You can choose a different folder for the root Bible folder only. This must be created before the installation is started, because the program cannot do that itself.

USB installation steps

In the screen with the locations, choose "Install to" on Browse.

Here you choose the USB drive, in this example U:

Click OK to start the installation in the Bible folder.

If you created a folder yourself, it will appear in this box.

Then select that folder first, and click OK.

After this you can continue the installation, and the Online Bible will be installed on the USB stick.

A shortcut will be created on the desktop, with which you can start the Online Bible on the USB stick.
