For those who have used the Online Bible for a long time it will normally be seen as a Windows program installed from DVD which could run on a Mac with some difficulties. There was also a separate Mac version developed in the US which cannot run on the latest MacOS (for more information: Online Bible and the Mac).

All that has changed. While that DVD version is still available in the US, and updated regularly, the Online Bible is now also available on a number of different platforms, and from Europe all as downloads.

Below an overview per type of device of the various options with the Online Bible.

  1. Windows desktop or laptop

For the Windows operating system, both Windows 11 and earlier, there are the following options:

    1. Free Basic Starter Pack

This is available from the site of the Canadian developer: http://onlinebible.net/

This is a complete, functional program, with all features working. However, the content is limited as publishers of modern translations expect to receive royalties for Bible translations.

On the same site you can also purchase a "Plus Version" with a limited number of titles to expand the content.

    2. For North America only: A complete DVD

If you are in North America it is possible to purchase the DVD on the developer's site: http://onlinebible.net/. If a more recent version of the software is available, this can always be used, together with the content on the DVD.

    3. For Premium Users

Any items purchased in the apps can also be installed in Windows by using the Online Bible Windows Content Installer. This can be downloaded here: : http://www.onlinebible.org/title/OLBWCIeng, but will not work without an account and if you are not registered in that account as a Premium User.

  2. Android

The Online Bible is also available as an Android app. This does require a minimum of Android version 6 (Marshmellow) although sometimes users of versions 4.3, 4.4 and 5 can use the older version.
You can find more information here: http://onlinebible.com/olb-en. The app is available in the Google Playstore.
In the app there is a store with additional content (Bibles, Lexicons, Dictionaries and Commentaries), some of it free and some to be purchased. To access the store you have to create an account. Anything you purchase can also be used on an iOS or Mac device, and in Windows if you are a Premium User.  There is also a possibility to import modules from the Online Bible DVD into the app, but for this you do have to purchase the import module.

In Android it is also possible to become a Premium User.

This provides you with some additional features (but not additional content). It also supports the development work of these apps, as there is no advertising in them, and your personal data is not used.

  3. Apple iMac of Macbook (macOS)

In the Mac App Store there is also an app specifically for the MacOS. This does require macOS 10.15 or higher.

Also in this app there is a store with additional content, some of it free and some to be purchased. To access the store you can use your iTunes account, but we strongly recommend creating an Online Bible account first. Having such an account will enable you to transfer purchases between platforms. As with Android, there is also a possibility to import modules from the Online Bible DVD into the app, but for this you do have to purchase the import module.

  4. Apple iPhone and iPad (iOS)

For iPhone and iPad you will find the Online Bible app in the App-store as a free download with some content.

In the app there is a store with additional content, some of it free and some to be purchased. The minimum iOS level is 15. The store can be accessed with your iTunes account, but we strongly recommend creating an Online Bible account first. Having such an account will enable you to transfer purchases between platforms. Anything you purchase can also be used on an Android or Mac device, as long as you have created an Online Bible account and your purchase has been registered on it. Please note: any purchase you make can only be used on the Windows platform if you are a Premium User. There is no possibility to import modules from the Online Bible DVD as Apple does not allow that.

Also on iOS devices it is also possible to become a Premium User.

This provides you with some additional features (but not additional content). It also supports the development work of these apps, as there is no advertising in them, and your personal data is not used.

In this article we have mentioned the Online Bible account several times. You can find more information here: An Online Bible Account.
